The government knew about the CCSS decision to solve the IVM crisis

Although last week minister of the Presidency Sergio Alfaro made a statement asking the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS) not to increase workers’ contribution until the issue was discussed, the truth is that today Alfaro admitted that the Government did know about the decision that the CCSS would make to alleviate the crisis of the Disability, Old Age and Death Pension Fund (IVM) .

The Government requested the CCSS not to enforce this measure until there is a tripartite dialogue among the authorities, employers and workers to reach an agreement.

Although the CCSS should be the one to start the process of meetings among the parties, the Executive expects to start talking about the issue as soon as possible because it is an urgent situation.

According to the Executive, the discussion on the subject should be an open and deep dialogue on the measures that were taken in a process that has always been used to make decisions about reforms in the IVM.
