The Ministry of Finance is likely to receive 154,278 million colones on vehicle ownership tax

The Ministry of Finance is likely to receive 154,278 million colones on vehicle ownership tax. It will be charged within the right of movement for 2017.

The amount is related to the collection of this tax from 2.1 million vehicles; however, deputy minister of Revenue Fernando Rodríguez explained
that, historically, it only collects about 85%:

Many people never pay that tax.

For this year, the vehicles’ tax value would be reduced by 9.14% on average, mainly because of depreciation and low inflation.
However, 1.3 million of personal cars and light cars will have a greater reduction than that figure, which goes from 10.37% to 11.5%.

Buses, taxis, motorcycles and heavy vehicles will not suffer a change in the amounts paid last year.

This time, the Treasury did not make a market study as it did before, as this will be done every 3 years.

Despite the almost universal decrease in the taxable value of the vehicles, the change in tax rate could affect some vehicles due to the variation of the parameters.
