Despite the attempt to reach an agreement as soon as possible by the alliance of the opposition sectors, the negotiations to promote the reform aiming to limit wage bonuses in the public sector, the tax on legal people, the fiscal rules and the value added tax (VAT) through expressways are not progressing.
The opposition parties want to push the approval of three of these initiatives through abbreviated processes, as they stated last week.
To advance has become difficult because Partido Acción Ciudadana (PAC) wants to approve it, but Movimiento Libertario is against it and Partido Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC) is negotiating with the government a counter proposal.
Currently, the initiative indicates that from the resources generated by the tax, 90% will be for the Ministry of Public Security, 5% for the Ministry of Justice and another 5% for the Judicial Investigation Organization (OIJ).
The PUSC proposes that 50% should be for Public Security, 45% for Justice and 5% for the OIJ in the first two years of the tax.
The National Liberation Party (PLN) is unaware of this negotiation, as confirmed by their representative Maureen Clarke.
Clarke stated that it was not until Monday that they received the government’s proposal.
PLN’s representative said that this proposal is going to be checked by her party, but clarified that she doesn´t know what is the order in which the executive branch wants the project to be processed.
