The project against tax fraud received legislative endorsement

The bill against tax fraud took a step forward this afternoon after being passed by a majority of the Financial Affairs’ Committee members.

The initiative was supported by the Legislators from the following political parties: Liberación Nacional (PLN), Unidad Social Cristiana (PUSC), Acción Ciudadana (PAC), Frente Amplio (FA) y Alianza Demócrata Cristiana (ADC). However, the bill didn’t have the support of Movimiento Libertario (ML).

The proposal includes the creation of a database that will be managed by the Central Bank of Costa Rica (BCCR) and the information could be use by the Ministry of Finances and the Costa Rican Drug Institute (ICD) to investigate suspects in cases of tax fraud and organized crime.

We all sat at the table and made a negotiation, but we are not 100% satisfied about the project,

said Congressman Frank Camacho from Frente Amplio.
