The shocking images of the fire in León XIII

Juan Mora was removing the debris from one of the forty shacks that were consumed by the fire. The man has not been able to sleep since 11:20 p.m. on Saturday, when the neighbors from Garabito in León XIII cried for help.

Since then, he got up to try and help. Firefighters used his house as a tunnel for the hoses to extinguish the fire that lasted more than an hour and took the lives of four people in Tibás.

The neighbors of the area say that they were fortunate because they managed to get out before the huge flames devoured the infrastructure in a matter of seconds.

The municipality of Tibás set up two shelters for 200 adults and 94 children. In addition, the institution started a campaign to help the victims. The judicial authorities are expected to reveal the causes of the fire in a few days, since neighbors believe it was arson.

What matters now is that we are alive. Material damages are recovered and there is nothing else to do than to continue,

said Mora.
