The west esplanade of the National Stadium will become the great stage for young people and the Costa Rican family to enjoy the second edition of II “Viva el Café Festival 2018” this weekend from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m.

The fair, which celebrates the quality of the Costa Rican gold grain, will take place during the closing of the national harvest season, an activity that has been part of the reality of the country for 200 years.

Through a varied offer of national coffee brands, beverage preparations, pastries, cosmetics, industrial equipment and crafts, visitors will be able to live an experience around the flagship product. There will be more than 50 stands of roasters, coffee cooperatives, producers and coffee shops, among others.

Ronald Peters, executive director of the Coffee Institute of Costa Rica (Icafé), recalls that since the beginning of these events they’ve been very pleased with this type of initiative.

Irene Saénz, Executive Director of the Chamber of Coffee Roasters of Costa Rica, said that today’s youths are restless consumers, who seek to know the history behind each cup of coffee they drink, how it was made and what are the special qualities.

In the framework of II Viva el Café Festival 2018, the National Barista Championship will be held, which evaluates the performance of a professional in the work station and the quality of the beverages prepared with coffee. Whoever wins will be the representative of the country in the world competition of this discipline, which will be held in July in the Netherlands.

Also, the National Championship of Tasters will take place to choose the best Costa Rican in speed, precision and ability to distinguish the sensory attributes among different types of coffee. The winner will be in the global competition that will take place in Dubai in September.
