These 14 magistrates opposed removing the Attorney General

Tuesday’s plenary session brought two options for the magistrates regarding the case of Jorge Cahavarría, Attorney General.

The first option was to keep him in the position but to separate him from the issues related to the cementazo. The second option was to separate him completely from his position as head of the Public Ministry, following a recommendation made by the Judicial Inspection Court to suspend Chavarría from all his functions.

Despite the complaints and questions about Chavarría and his actions, the Court only took made the decision of separating him from the investigations related to the cement and to keep him in the positio. Fourteen of the 20 judges opposed the removal of Chavarria from the position he has held for more than seven years.

Chavarría was supported by magistrates Carlos Chinchilla (president of the Court), Julia Varela Araya, Luis Porfirio Sánchez Rodríguez, Jesús Ramírez Quirós, Doris Arias Madrigal, Ernesto Jinesta Lobo, Fernando Castillo Víquez, Paul Rueda Leal, Luis Fernando Salazar Alvarado, Marcela Allón Zúñiga, Héctor Blanco González, Ronald Cortés Coto and José Paulino Hernández Gutiérrez.

Those who voted to remove Chavarría were Fernando Cruz, Nancy Hernandez, Román Solis, William Molinari, Maribel Seing Murillo and Iris Rocio Rojas Aguilar.
