Third fire in Puntarenas in less than two months

The Fire Department faced the third forest fire of 2017. The incident occured in the sector of Cabagra in Buenos Aires de Puntarenas.
According to the Fire Department, “a group of 15 firefighters walked 5 to 6 hours to access the site where the flames affect about 50 hectares.”

A camp was set up at the site for the fire units to spend the night.

The previous fire was controlled over the weekend in Turrúbares, where a total of 1300 hectares were affected by the flames.

At 5 this morning, Puriscal Firefighters visited the area with drones to confirm that there are no more fire sources that could cause the fire to restart,

explained the institution.

To date, 3 forest fires have been reported. The first one occurred on January 29th in San Joaquín, Nicoya, Guanacaste, where 20 hectares were affected.

Then, on February 11th, there was another fire in Bolsón de Turrúbares and now the forest fire was controlles in Cabagra de Buenos Aires, Puntarenas.

Since 2012, forest fires have destroyed 53,000 hectares throughout the country.
