To extend the vehicle restrictions in three national highways is not the solution to end traffic congestion in costa Rica.

Minister of Public Works and Transportation Carlos Villalta admitted that the solution to the traffic jams that affect Costa Ricans is not only to extend the restriction on General Cañas road, Florencio del Castillo road and Route 32.

The minister stressed that everything depends on the drivers’ caution to avoid accidents that bring as consequence endless traffic jams.

Villalta said that within two weeks The Traffic Institution will deliver a study and authorities will determine the viability of the plan.

The study also includes an analysis to determine whether the traffic police is able to control the vehicle restriction on those highways, as it faces a shortage of staff.
