Top Wall Street executive killed by shark attack in Isla del Coco

The American tourist attacked by a shark in Isla del Coco was a senior Wall Street executive in New York.

Rohina Bhandari, 49, died on Thursday morning attacked by a female tiger shark. The woman, an American with Hindu ancestry, suffered severe injuries to her lower extremities, which caused her death almost immediately.

Bhandari participated as a tourist in a diving expedition. The New York Post and The New York Daily News indicated that the woman was senior director of the firm WL Ross & Co. LL, an investment group in different countries and based in Bombay (India).

In fact, the firm was founded in April 2000 by Wilbur Ross, current Secretary of Commerce of the Administration of Donald Trump.

Bhandari’s body arrived in the mainland on Friday and was referred to the judicial morgue for their respective autopsy. Apparently, several relatives would process the transfer to US territory to bury her.

Bhandari was attacked at the dive spot known as ‘Manuelita’. According to the Ministry of Environment and Energy (MINAE), this is the first case of a death by shark attack on Isla del Coco.

A tourist guide surnamed Jiménez was also seriously wounded in one of his extremities.

The Deputy Prosecutor of Puntarenas reported on Friday that, after receiving a report from the Isla del Coco ranger, they opened a file to investigate the case.
