Fire Department

The law against animal abuse came into effect in the worst way. This Monday, a toucan was seriously injured after being shot, and was later transferred by the Fire Department to the facilities of Rescate Animal Zoo Ave in Alajuela. However, and in spite of the efforts that were made to save it, it passed away.

This was confirmed by Marian Ortega, communicator of Zoo Ave,

we received it in a critical state, it came in shock and recently died. It came with gunshot wounds (…) These birds, when feeling pain, being handled and locked in a cage, begin to feel stress. The toucan came with exposed fractures and with the wing almost totally torn. With main bones exposed and had lost a lot of blood,”

said Ortega.

The woman also said that at this time the specialist of the entity assesses the wounds of the bird and they will later release the official cause of death of the bird.
