Tourism infrastructure in national parks of the South will be renovated

The Regional Development Board of the Southern Zone (Judesur) gave the Corcovado Foundation more than ¢ 250 million to start the project “Improving the conditions of tourist visitation, employability and conservation of the Protected Wild Areas of the South Pacific”.

This first disbursement will go to the first stage of the project in which the designs of 48 projects and the feasibility studies will be carried out. For the second stage, they plan to start construction and the third stage will be concluded with the equipment.

This project has been created with the Ministry of Environment and Energy and the communities providing ideas of how we wanted the infrastructure to be developed in La Amistad International Park, with the objective of becoming a tourist attraction and offering better Facilities that will also generate jobs for the area, because we want these spaces to be managed by people from the community and other services are generated around the Park,”

According to data from 2015, the tourist visitation of these five National Parks (National Marine Park Ballena, Corcovado National Park, La Amistad International Park, Golfito Wildlife Refuge and Piedras Blancas National Park) was 236 thousand people: 128 thousand nationals and 107 thousand foreigners.

The total cost of the project is ¢ 1.7 billion to be invested in airborne shelters on woodland trails, sanitary batteries, adequate signage and cleaning of trails, improvement of tourist assistance centers, dormitories and posts for park rangers, a voltaic plant, among other improvements.
