Tourist are asked not to vistit unauthorized areas

The National System of Conservation Areas (SINAC), called for national and foreign tourists to be responsible during their tourist activity and not to use clandestine trails because they can expose them to serious danger.

This is a campaign called “Responsible Tourist”, which seeks to expose the problem of people walking and staying in unauthorized areas within the National Parks.

We must be responsible, know the existing regulations and respect the official signage in each of these sites, so that neither the integrity of the tourist nor the biodiversity elements in each protected wild area are exposed to danger. Avoid being part of situations that involve non-compliance with the Law,”

said Grettel Vega, Executive Director of SINAC.

According to statistics held by the Costa Rican Red Cross, in 2018, they dealt with 139 incidents of people who got lost in mountains and so far in 2019, 118 incidents have been registered.

The authorities ask tourists to abide by the following recommendations:

1. If you are traveling with a tour operator or guide, verify that they have the ICT certifications and / or the corresponding operating permits.
2. When visiting a National Park or other destination, be sure to do so by official access, properly labeled and at the established time.
3. If you are inside a National Park, follow the recommendations of the Park Ranger, properly identified, and if you are in another destination, ask local people to guide you.
4. Perform only the activities allowed, to avoid hazards.
5. Remember to bring appropriate clothing and other implements to your destination to make your trip more pleasant.
