Train service will open from San José to Río Segundo in Alajuela

The Costa Rican Railroad Institute (INCOFER) will start offering a train service between Río Segundo in Alajuela to San José, as part of a pilot plan before extending the route up to San Rafael’s Hospital, at the center of this province.

Since May 31, users can take the train in the station located 200 meters from the police station of Alajuela.

The first route between Rio Segundo and the Universidad Latina in San Pedro will be used as a pilot to determine the demand of users and frequency of trains, said Maria Fernanda Arias, spokeswoman INCOFER.

The train will work on two schedules; it will depart Río Segundo at 5:50 am and at 6:30 pm. While the trains going toward the Atlantic will leave at 5:00 am and at 5:35 pm.

The ticket between Segundo Río and San Pedro will cost ¢ 460 and for those traveling up to Barrio Escalante will cost them ¢ 420.
