Tribute to Cinchona’s victims

On October 29th, at the new fairground of Heredia, senior citizens from the canton will end the month dedicated to them with a series of sports and recreational activities organized by the Cantonal Committee of Sports and Recreation and the City of Heredia.

Nearly a thousand elderly people are expected to participate in the activity Heredia Dorada (Golden Heredia), to pay tribute to the victims of the accident in Cinchona, which claimed the lives of 14 senior citizens and left 20 wounded.

We want to dedicate a space for families to remember the value of elderly people and the pain of their departure, and to create awareness of the importance of caring for them, protecting them and enjoy with them while they live. It is also a call for a halt to all violence against them, and a recognition to the pillars of this canton that passed away in that accident,”

said Jonathan Ramirez, president of the Cantonal Committee of Sports and Recreation Heredia.

The victims include Jesús Hernández, a member of Cubujuquí Community Sports Committee, and Nidia Zamora, a former councilwoman, a stronghold of the promotion of Paralympic sport in the canton.

The tribute to the victims of Cinchona recognizes the value of these people, who gave their best throughout their lives and even as pensioners, they continued with an important social work, because that trip was not just a walk, their idea was to help an indigenous community… Heredia will always remember them,”

said Ramírez.
