Twelve years in prison for kidnapping a baby

Thanks to hard evidence presented by the Prosecutor’s Office of Quepos and Parrita, Santos Martínez Gutiérrez, a Nicaraguan national, must serve a 12-year prison sentence, after being found guilty of the offense of aggravated abduction of a minor.

The sentence was issued by the Criminal Court of the area on Monday morning.

The charges brought by the Prosecutor’s Office took place on May 27th in central Quepos, when Martínez’s partner took advantage of the trust he had with the minor’s family. The baby was four months old then and the couple took them to San Joé.

After several police investigations, the minor was rescued in an apartment in Escazú, in a place that had been rented by the accused and the woman.

There is an arrest warrant against the woman, who failed to show up in court.
