Two earthquakes in Guanacaste on Tuesday

Two earthquakes were felt in the Guanacaste area on Tuesday, specifically in Bagaces and in Filadelfia, reported the Volcanological and Seismological Observatory of Costa Rica (OVSICORI).

Marino Protti, an OVSICORI scientist, commented that the earthquake in Bagaces was a local fault located between the community of Guayabo and La Fortuna. The magnitude was 3.0 and had a depth of eight kilometers. The seismic movement was at 12:29 p.m.

Its exact location was 3.6 km southwest of Fortuna in Bagaces. In the comments on the Facebook wall of the institution, some people indicated that they felt it very strongly precisely in La Fortuna. Others say it that was more of a rumble.

The second earthquake was 10.7 km West of Filadelfia, Carrillo at 3:06 p.m. The magnitude was 3.3.

Protti explained that this second tremor is by subduction of the Cocos Plate, about 40 kilometers deep.
