Uber announces increase in fee component

Uber Costa Rica announced on Thursday an increase in the fee to be paid by passengers using this transport service through the electronic application.

This is an increase in the “application fee” item that previously had a fixed cost ¢50 and will now be calculated based on the amount of the trip.

According to the new formula, the amount of the fee will be equal to 5.3% of the cost of the trip, which in turn is calculated according to the time of the transfer and a rate per kilometer.

This will imply an increase for any trip whose time and distance exceeds ¢943.40, since the formula will result in an amount greater than ¢50.

In this regard, Julie Robinson, communications manager of Uber for Central America and the Caribbean said that with this new measure they will try to “improve aspects of safety and quality” that benefit both partners and users.
