Uncertainty among Costa Rican consumers

Uncertainty prevails among Costa Rican consumers and the Christmas bonus, the Holiday and the end of the year had no positive impact on people’s expectations.

The current government’s economic policy rating is low. Only 5.9% of the people consulted believes the Executive is doing a good job, while 66.7% think it is a poor job.

In the area of social policy, expectations are negative, with more than half of those surveyed expecting unemployment to rise in the next 12 months, just as they expect poverty to grow.

Costa Ricans in a large majority (75%) also expect an increase in gasoline prices in the coming months.

The Consumer Confidence Survey was prepared by the UCR Statistical School and was applied from November 1st to 19th, prior to Hurricane Otto’s devastation on the Costa Rican territory, so the results do not show the impact of this tragedy on people’s expectations.
