Unions and government fail to agree on wage adjustment

Unions’ members believe the salary adjustment of 0.01% proposed by the government for the public sector is a mockery. Therefore, negotiations will continue next week.

According to Olman Chinchilla, from the unions’ central, the rejection towards the figure was publicly announced.

We think that the proposal presented by the government is a mockery for all workers in the public sector and we have made this clear to the representatives. It has been rejected and we already said we won’t sign it,”

said Chinchilla.

The unions, on the other hand, proposed a raise of 1.49% for all categories, plus 1% for non-professionals, reaching a total of 2.49%. Moreover, the proposal includes coverage for Disability, Old Age and Death pensioners.

Chinchilla said there were 4 proposals on the negotiating table and the other 2 were by the Bloque Unitarios Sindical y Social and by the Asociación Nacional de Educadores (ANDE).
