Upala community is completely isolated and rescue teams are working hard to help people from this community, one of the most affected by tropical storm Otto.

According to the Fire Department, 6 people were rescued after being swept away by a rising river.

A family was also taken from their home, as it was surrounded by water.

In Guayabos Bagaces, 15 people were rescued behind the Thermomania resort.

Firefighters declared that they have received 400 calls for help, which they have assisted based on the proximity and severity of the emergency.

The main problem rescue teams are facing is the impossibility to reach the center of the community due to the great amount of fallen trees on the roads. There is only one enabled road, but only light vehicles can go through.

In addition, the President of the Republic has issued short statements on his official Twitter account.

At 2 am, he informed that Zapote River in Upala is about to overflow.

In addition, Puerto Soley crossing is blocked by falling trees. The same situation occurs on the National Route 4, from Birmania to Santa Cecilia and on the National Route 1, from Liberia to La Cruz.

The president reported that Cañas Dulces, La Cruz, Quebrada Grande, La Cruz and Liberia communities are without electricity.
