Vaccination period will be extended until July 21st

The vaccination period against influenza virus will be extended until July 21st, reported the Costa Rican Social Security Fund (CCSS).

The decision was taken on Friday by the institution’s specialists, in order to raise the coverage to the risk groups that were defined for 2017.

María Eugenia Villalta, medical manager of the CCSS, said that this extension will be carried out under the same guidelines, which means that all children between six months and five years of age will continue to be protected, pregnant women, people over 60 years old and those who suffer from respiratory diseases, diabetes, obesity and cardiac problems.

As of Friday, 1,050,935 doses of seasonal influenza vaccines had been applied.

During 2017, the CCSS acquired 1.3 million doses, which means that 249,065 doses have not been applied. This year, the investment was $ 5 million.
