Venezuelan national guard shatters violin as a young man confronts bullets with his music

On May 9th, Wuilly Moisés Arteaga’s images of the violin in the midst of molotov and tear gas bombs on the streets of Caracas, Venezuela, went around the world.

Armed only with his violin, Wuilly has participated in the protests that his country has been experiencing for more than 45 days. The young man has joined several of the demonstrations in which the citizens demand free elections. Over the course of days, clashes with the Bolivarian National Guard have claimed the lives of more than 55 people, many of them young people -like Wuilly- who want a free Venezuela.

On Wednesday, Wuilly appeared in several tweets where he is seen crying. The Bolivarian Guard stripped him of his violin and then returned it, broken.

Today the young man said he forgives those who destroyed the instrument with which he has protected himself from bullets during demonstrations.
