Venezuelan opposition returned to the streets

No more hunger, no more insecurity, no more repression”

: with this motto the Venezuelan opposition returned to challenge the government of Nicolás Maduro in the streets of Caracas, after 52 days of protests, 49 dead and semi-militarized cities.

A spate of tear gas prevented Venezuelan Medical Federation (FMV) opponents and members of the Venezuelan Medical Ministry from approaching the Ministry of Health in the Venezuelan capital to protest for the catastrophic situation of hospitals, due to a lack of supplies, equipment and medications.

This is the only option we have (to continue the protests). Am I afraid? I’m more afraid to live this way. Have you visited a supermarket? There is no milk, there is nothing. This is embarrassing,”

complained Raul, 64, a general practitioner.

Health is a disaster. We are in the worst state of the last 30 years. It is always scary to protest. But we will continue to do so until there is a change,”

said Fernando Gudayol, a 50-year-old surgeon.

The financial center of Caracas was flooded with banners with the word “Resist” under the three colors of the Venezuelan flag, posters denouncing “no more hunger, no more insecurity, no more repression”, and others that reflect the battle with the government: “We’ll see who gets tired first.”

On the other side, followers of chavismo concentrated in the presidential palace of Miraflores, where they received Maduro, who also called a mega march “for peace” on Tuesday.
