Violent car thief sentenced to 39 years in prison

For Hidalgo Hernández it was not enough to steal cars by “bajonazo” (getting the owner out of the car). He also enjoyed threatening and targeting his victims. Now, he will spend the next 39 years in prison.

The Criminal Court of San José handed down the sentence last Friday against the 39-year old man, who was found guilty of multiple crimes: 4 attempted murder, 1 attempted homicide, 2 aggravated robberies, 4 charges for handling stolen goods , 1 illegal possession of a weapon, possession of an illegal weapon, 1 breaking and entering and 1 alteration of weapon.

Between January 2013 and November 2014, Hidalgo approached the victims in areas of Alajuelita, Aserrí and Montes de Oca.

The prosecution showed that on 2 occasions the defendant took advantage of drivers that were parked, to threaten them with a gun and rob them with the method of ‘bajonazo’,”

said the Public Ministry.

On June 8th, 2014, the subject went to the house of one of his victims in Alajuelita and shot 5 times against 4 people.

Also, on November 9th of the same year, the accused shot another man, when the latter was with his friends in the community of Aserrí,”

added the report.

In the period under investigation, Hidalgo illegally carried 8 firearms and altered the serial of one of them.
