Volunteers cleaned María Aguilar River

On Saturday, more than 100 volunteers managed to collect about 600 kilos of waste that were in the canal and around María Aguilar River.

The activity “Manos Unidas por el María Aguilar” was carried out with the objective of encouraging young people and people from the surrounding communities to join efforts in cleaning, as well as raising awareness in the country about the importance of addressing environmental problems that are part of this context.

The initiative is led by the Municipality of San José, the Local Committee of the María Aguilar Interurban Biological Corridor formed by the Blue Ecological Flag Program, the National Institute of Housing and Urbanism and Ecology Project International (EBI).

The collected waste was weighed and placed in a container located in Parque de la Paz and supplied by the EBI company.

In the previous editions of this initiative, around 10 tons of waste have been collected, most of them being clothes, plastics and electronic equipment.
