What are the best and worst municipalities in the country?

The Comptroller General of the Republic (CGR) presented the 2016 Municipal Management Index in which only 12 municipalities obtained a grade higher than 70.

The comptroller assured that the report registers a setback in the average score of the municipalities and shows that important difficulties persist to provide public services, park maintenance, garbage collection and financial stability.

In the most recent report, the CGR indicated that the average grade was 54.39%. In the previous edition the rating was 59 points out of 100.

Aldemar Argüello, Manager of the Local Development Area of the CGR explained that this document analyzes 61 indicators related to management, planning, citizen participation, among others. A total of 57 municipalities obtained a rating lower than that registered in the IGM of 2015.

The municipalities were separated into four groups and the best scores were obtained by San Carlos, San Rafael, Flores and Valverde Vega. While Liberia, Santa Bárbara de Heredia, Turrubares and Los Chiles occupied the worst places of their blocks.
