Who is Ríos Mairena, suspect of killing 5 university students?

The suspect of murdering 5 young people in Liberia took advantage of the peace of the dawn to carry out his macabre plan.

The 33-year-old man, surnamed Ríos Mairena, took advantage of the fact that the victims were sleeping to break into the apartment and commit the horrible crime.

He walked in unexpectedly, without forcing the door, between 1:30 am and 2:00 am on January 19th. From that moment, he had the advantage to execute each of the actions that ended in a bloodbath.

The subject brought them together in one room, killed the men first, and then he attacked the women. To kill them, he used a kitchen knife and tied the victim by their hands and feet,

declared Walter Espinoza, director of the Judicial Investigation Agency (OIJ).

Ríos, who worked as a construction worker, is classified as a subject with narcissistic and paranoid personality. His behavior is hostile, unfriendly, aggressive and he justifies the bad acts he commits. the man shows sadistic tendencies and he is a habitual marijuana consumer.

The suspect lived with his biological mother and stepfather. Since he lives in the same block as the victims, that gave him the possibility to know them and their movements.

Espinoza clarified that there was no sexual abuse against the victims.

The OIJ had been following the suspect for a week. It was determined that he never moved after committing the act. Nevertheless, he left his house on several occasions to work.

It should be noted that Ríos was sentenced to 8 years in prison in 2012 for the crime of drug trafficking. Despite serving a sentence, he received several prison benefits since 2014 that allowed him to be out of jail.
