Winds knock down trees killing two people

The strong winds that began to intensify in the national territory this Saturday due to the presence of a cold front took the lives of two people in the sector of Playa Chiquita, in Limón.

At 1:44 a.m., the Fire Department was alerted of the fall of a tree on a structure, 200 meters east of the school of Playa Chiquita. When they arrived at the scene, they found two victims. a man and a woman who have not been identified by the authorities. The tree fell on a tourist cabin that was completely destroyed, crushing the two people.

The victims would be between 30 and 40 years old, according to the report provided by the Fire Department. The judicial authorities took charge of the scene to determine the identities of the deceased.

From 6 p.m. on Saturday and until 6 a.m. this Sunday, firefighters dealt with 29 emergencies due to falling trees and 73 short circuits, because the winds caused damage to the primary and secondary lines.

Puntarenas, Moravia, Acosta, Alajuela, Tres Ríos, Turrialba , Aserrí, Vuelta de Jorco, Goicoechea, Abangares, Pavas, Limón and Coronado were some of the affected places.
