5 flights cancelled and one redirected for volcanic eruptions

Aeris, the company that runs the International Airport Juan Santamaría, reported on Friday that five airlines decided to suspend their flights into Costa Rica after the volcano Turrialba erupted.

The airlines that cancelled their flights were: Southwest, Air Canada, Spirit, Aeromexico, a freighter from Tampa, and United redirected a flight toward Liberia.

Copa Airlines, Avianca and Delta Airlines told the press that their flights will be leaving on time except one flight by Avianca to El Salvador that took off before time as a preventive measure.

All airlines keep checking to alerts issued by the Civil Aviation Direction and the Airport administration.

Late on Friday, it was made known all flights from and to El Salvador were suspended and scheduled for Sunday.
