9 politicians are ready for the Presidential race

Two years have passed since Costa Ricans elected a new president, but now at least nine politicians dream of being the successor of Luis Guillermo Solís.

In the National Liberation Party (PLN), two candidates (former President Jose Maria Figueres and former deputy Sigifredo Aiza) have already confirmed their aspirations.

On the other hand, former governor Óscar Arias is still sleeping on his decision, and legislator Rolando González hasn’t started his pre-campaign.

The internal dispute in the Social Christian Unity Party (PUSC) is also intense. There are three candidates that aspire to seize the presidency: the executive president of the Costa Rican Department of Social Security, Rodolfo Piza, and legislators Humberto Ortiz and Rafael Vargas.

The Libertarian Movement, which has always represented their leader, Otto Guevara, in electoral contests, might now represent a young congresswoman, Natalia Diaz.

Other political parties also have an internal battle to decide who will be represented in their pursuit of the Solís’ position.
