A bill aims to increase working time

A bill aims to increase working time up to 10 hours a day, from Monday to Friday, as well as to exempt public and private sector employees from working on Saturdays.

The initiative, presented by legislator Rafael Ortiz, from Partido Unión Social Cristiana (PUSC), indicates that the cumulative time may not exceed the 48 hours during week days or the 36 hours during week nights, as established by the Labour Code.

Nowadays, people must work 8 hours a day, 48 hours a week, which involves working from Monday to Saturday.

The bill excludes companies where workers are under unhealthy, heavy or dangerous conditions, as well as those places where pregnant women and people under 18 years old are employed.
