On Tuesday, officers from the National Coast Guard Service found a leatherback sea turtle that was tied up and ready to be butchered.

According to the Ministry of Public Security, the officers were patroling several sectors that are used by hunters to kill endangered species, when they found the turtle at about 2:00 a.m. It was immediately released in the sea.

Officers are looking for the people responsible for this act.

Last week several leatherback sea turtles and 7 large iguanas were saved near Mondonguillo Biological Reserve.
