According to the government, Nicaraguan compensation will be used to solve enviromental problems

According to the government, the $ 6 million to be paid by Nicaragua to Costa Rica as compensation for the environmental damage suffered in Portillos island will be used to solve that problem.

The deadline to pay the established amount will finish on December 16th, otherwise, Costa Rica has every right to file a complaint before the Court of Justice in order to resolve the conflict.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Manuel González said that the country does not want to get rich, it is just a decision from the Court and Nicaragua has to pay.

Since there aren’t signs of a possible payment from Nicaragua, the Foreign Ministry gave orders to Costa Rican Ambassador to the Netherlands Sergio Ugalde to contact his Nicaraguan counterpart and talk about the future of that payment.
