Alimony non compliance drives a man into hiding

A man, who we will name “Fernando”, has to pay a 1.5 million colones on monthly alimony. However, not having the money, he chose to hide in order to avoid the arrest warrant he received for not complying with the court’s period for the payment.

His case is not the only one. Like many other men, he doesn’t make enoguh money to pay for the established allimony and was already arrested once for a payment delay. His brother made an effort and paid for it, because it was the only way to get him out of prison.

Fernando is part of a family business and the judge made her decision based on that. However, the ugly truth is that he doesn’t have money and is he is not even a shareholder on that business.

“I had to disappear. I have to pay 750.000 colones for each of my kids. It is madness. I don’t have that amount,”

Fernando declared, and his situation just gets worse since he can’t see his children due to a cautionary measure.

“I’m ruined. That is my family. And now, I have an arrest warrant because I’m delayed on the payment. They are looking for me as if I were a hitman. This is horrible,”

said 32-year-old Fernando, who was married for 9 years.

He is not against the measure, but he just wants an adjustment of his alimony quotas and to be assigned a reasonable amount, one he can afford.

This situation is not new. A 37-year-old man is forced to pay 700.000 colones for his 2-year-old daughter. Another individual has to pay 550.000 colones as alimony for his 6-year-old son. His wage is 1.000.000 colones.
