Appeals against decision to remove gender from the ID

The Constitutional Chamber already has five appeals against the decision of the Supreme Electoral Tribunal (TSE), to remove the person’s gender from the identity card. The Press Office of the Constitutional Chamber reported that the appeals were filed since Monday and are being studied

The decision of the TSE was made after the Advisory Opinion issued by the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (Court of Human Rights), which established the possibility of regulating the change of name by administrative means.

The Court ordered the creation of a new chapter in the Regulation of the Civil Registry called Change of name by gender identity. Likewise, it ordered a reform of the ID Card Regulations with new characteristics, in order to eliminate the person’s gender from the identity card.
