Fifteen tons of cocaine, 4,1 tons of marijuana, 9390 doses of crack, 1.5 million marijuana plants and 33 grams of heroin were seized by the Drug Control Police (PCD) of the Ministry of Public Security from January to August.
In addition, 215 men and 87 women were arrested, out of which 233 are Costa Rican and 68 are foreigners: 26 Nicaraguans, 14 Colombians, 13 Americans, 6 Guatemalans, 3 Hondurans, two Jamaicans, 2 Russians, 2 Salvadorians, one Cuban, one Mexican and one Israeli. It was possible to break up 50 drug mafias and 25 international organizations.
As for arms and money, officials have confiscated 70 firearms, especially handguns and 59,8 million colones in cash, 882,550 dollars and 880 euros.
Authorities highlights that this monitoring work is, in many occasions, thanks to citizen complaints and they urge people to continue using free and confidential line 1176, which operates 24 hours a day.
