Beware of sextortion!

A woman was recently threatened. If she didn’t go out with a man, he would publish a picture of her in social networks.

José Adalid Medrano explained that this is called sextortion.

According to the expert, sextortion is the use of a personal image or intimate video by any third party in order to force someone to pay an amount of money and if the victim refuses to do it, the victimizer is able to publish the material on social networks or send it to family and close friends.

But they don’t only ask for money, they also ask for sexual favors in exchange.

The expert warns that it is a global trend and there are criminal gangs that recruit beautiful women to seek out victims in social networks.

There are international criminal gangs that practice sextortion and use pretty women who contact men in social networks, then the ladies start sexual content exchanges with them, they ask the victim to participate on a sex video call and start to get naked, they ask the victim to do the same, but fail to let them know they are being recorded ,

Medrano explained.

Usually the criminals are not in the same country as the victims, therefore they ask for the payment through Western Union.

Beware:

-Do not accept friendship requests from unknown people. If the person is very attractive, be more suspicious.
-Do not exchange sexual content with anyone.
-Do not open any content or email sent by an unknown person. It could be a virus.

If you are a victim:

-Do not pay any amount of money.
-File a complaint.
-Check on Youtube if there’s any video of yours. If that’s the case, report it.
