Blind sloth receives help

A sloth that is gradually losing its vision entered the Animal Rescue ZooAve vet clinic.

The 4-year-old animal was found by a person in Los Ángeles de Santo Domingo in Heredia. When it entered the center, the sloth underwent medical tests and it was detected a white layer over its right eye. Vets determined it completely lost sight on that eye. In addition, vets also noticed that its left eye was shrinking in size. They concluded that it is gradually losing its eyesight. Now, experts are studying their options to help the sloth.

The animal is in a medium-sized enclosure, where it cannot get hurt if it falls and its food is easy to take. The sloth is receiving constant examinations.

This case is a new challenge as it is the first time we see a case of this type in this species. We had a monkey and a kinkajou. They were blind, but perfectly adapted to their enclosures. Both animals died of natural causes. We are doing everything we can to help the sloth,
