Bolivian and Costa Rican entrepreneurs seek to increase trade

Costa Rican and Bolivian businessmen signed an agreement in order to increase trade between the two countries.

The agreement was signed between the Costa Rican Chamber of Foreign Trade (Crecex) and the National Chamber of Commerce of Bolivia.

Bolivia presents itself as an interesting offer with innovative proposals for the Costa Rican consumer,”

said José Manuel Quirce, president of Crecex.

The agreement includes de possibilities for training sessions on business opportunities in both countries, as well as participation in major events such as the Feria de La Paz, which will take place on 19 and 20 July in La Paz.

Currently, Costa Rica sells to Bolivia: uncured vulcanized rubber packaging, paper and corrugated boxes, mobile telephones and other wireless networks, iron or steel wire articles, screw caps and plastic safety bands, and Orthopedic appliances, among others.

By 2015, the export invoice to Bolivia reached $ 1.3 billion, while the import reached $ 1.2 million.

The South American country, with an area of 424 thousand square kilometers and a little more than 10 million inhabitants, offers a series of articles that are not being produced in the country.

Javier Hinojoso, President of the National Chamber of Bolivian Commerce, said that some interesting market niches have already been “visualized” for soybeans, beans and beef. He added that they also perceive an excellent opportunity for the wine produced in the region of Tarija, with grapes coming from strains of excellent quality.

Hinojosa recalled that Bolivia produces and consumes quinoa seed in large quantities. This seed has unique characteristics and it is a relatively new food in Costa Rica, prepared in different ways, especially as gruel.
