Chavarría: “cartels are training Central American criminals”

Attorney General Jorge Chavarría assured that Costa Rican and Central American criminals are being trained in Mexican territory to learn the mothodology used by the cartels and then apply it in Central America. The complaint was made by Chavarría in an interview with El Universal Mexican newspaper.

Chavarría revealed that Mexican cartels are recruiting Central American criminals to take them to drug trafficking “schools” in Mexico and train them, so that when they return to Central America they can use what they learnt about international drug smuggling and parallel narco activity.

After refraining from identifying the Mexican cartels involved, he said that they are the ones that have more control in Central America.

Anti-drug authorities in the area have confirmed that the cartels of Sinaloa and Los Zetas are among the most active in the region, although others, such as Michoacana or El Golfo family, have also operated in the area. Los Zetas’ activities were detected with greater intensity in Guatemala, while Sinaloa cartel is in every Central American country.
