Costa Rica achieved a better rating in the Corruption Perceptions Index

During 2016, Costa Rica achieved a better rating in the Corruption Perceptions Index. It reached 58 points, to be ranked 41st in the world.

It is also placed in the third place in Latin America, in both the ranking and in the value of the CPI.

This was announced by Costa Rica Integra, which presented the results. It assured that the country had three points more than in 2015.

In a year where most nations were down in their ratings, Costa Rica improved a lot. It even has the best rating in Central America, since the other countries, including Panama, did not reach 40 points.

In addition, the results show that the country has been improving its perception about corruption in the last 5 years.

This index does not measure government work or public policy. Instead it is built in a macro way, comparing the best and worst practices of each country.

Denmark and New Zealand are the countries with the highest CPI, adding 90 points, which means that they are the least corrupt countries in the world.

Among the last places there is Venezuela, which reached only 17 points and joins Asian and African countries among the last 10 places of the index.
