Costa Rica’s legislative transparency ranks first in Latin America

Costa Rica ranks first in the transparency indexes regarding the work of the Congress, the good use of its budget and its administrative management among 13 countries in Latin America, according to a study by the Latin American Network for Legislative Transparency.

The study places Costa Rica with 78% in the work of its Congress and 79% in its administrative and budgetary management, while Chile, which occupies the second place, obtained 71% and 61% respectively.

The worst rating in all areas is Venezuela with 38% in regulations, 20% in the work of Congress, 7% in budget and 30% in citizen participation, care and accountability.

The network concludes that Latin America shows a diverse scenario in terms of legislative transparency, so the average of the 13 countries evaluated gives a result of 50%, which means that the region is halfway to full transparency.
