Costa Rican created method to teach science in Chile

Daniela Mendoza is a Costa Rican biologist based in Chile. She and her husband Matías Gutiérrez, a Chilean biochemist, developed a venture that today is an established and recognized company in that country.

Biochemistry CL focuses in developing experimental methodology to teach science. The idea is that children learn by playing and experimenting without having to memorize, and that teachers receive constant training to specialize in different areas.

The company’s methodology is applied by 182 institutions throughout Chile, with more than 600 teachers enrolled in the online platform and more than 45 thousand students working with the proposal.

Their kit, ‘Experience’, allows the development of skills and scientific thinking in students, and can be used from pre-kindergarten through senior year.

The proposal was funded by ProChile –PROCOMER’s counterpart in Chile- and now the Chilean Embassy plans to talk to the Costa Rican Ministry of Public Education (MEP) to apply the same program in the Costa Rican School República de Chile.
