Costa Rican police officer will accompany the peace process in Colombia

A Costa Rican policeman will be part of the observers who will be responsible for monitoring and verifying the weapons surrender, the  ceasefire and the halt in hostilities, as part of the peace process that is taking place in Colombia.

It is Gilbert Brenes Gómez, an officer from the Public Force who has been working for the Ministry of Security for 11 years. He was appointed to represent Costa Rica in the process that will last a year approximately.

After making an analysis of all the nominations submitted, the election was conducted by the United Nations Police Division.

Gustavo Mata, Minister of Security, said that authorities are proud of Brenes.

The participation of Costa Rican officials in this mission of the United Nations in Colombia represents a concrete and tangible testimony of the country’s commitment to the defense of international peace and security. In addition, it reinforces our work for the professionalization of the Costa Rican police,”

declared Mata.

31-years-old Officer Brenes has two children and lives in Agua Caliente de Cartago. He said that he is happy with his designation.
