Costa Rican women are victims of harrassment on the streets!

They use obscene looks, words and acts to attack their prey.

According to the Observatory of Gender Violence against Women and Access to Justice, from the Judicial Branch, that is the way women are harrassed. In 2015, more than 39,000 prosecution cases were registered in national courts. Of these, more than 7,400 (19%) had to do with sexual harassment in public spaces.

Complaints for obscene words or acts are the most reported. They are followed by disrespectful proposals, indecent exposures and molestations.

It is a complex topic in the courts because many of them are related to family or community conflicts.

How to report?

-The affected person must provide the address and personal details of the aggresor.
-If he has police records, the person must go to ratify the facts.
-Then, once the defendant’s version is heard, a audience to promote a reconciliation between the parties is appointed.
-If there is no consensus, the process will continue.
