Education budget won’t be reduced

One of the issues that has caused controversy since the delivery of the spending plan 2017 is the Special Fund for Higher Education (FEES).

Legislators considered that 38 billion colones is an excessive request when compared to the current one. However, Luis Guillermo Solís reaffirmed his position.

During his speech at the celebration of the 195th anniversary of the National Independence, the president declared he will not reduce one colón from the budget assigned to education, because, according to him, that money allows young people to have the best education to guarantee a bright future.

Legislators, mainly from Partido de Liberación Nacional, think that this increase is far from the reality in the country due to the fiscal crisis.
