Farmers in the Northern Zone receive help after Hurricane Otto

Farmers in the North Zone who were affected by Hurricane Otto have been provided with the necessary agricultural inputs to restore their production.

According to the Regional Director of the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock of the Huetar Norte region, about two billion colones have been distributed in various products and this has benefited 1,600 farmers.

Approximately two billion colones are being distributed in seeds, fertilizers, and other agricultural inputs for rice, beans, corn, cassava, cocoa, and sugar cane producers, among other crops,”

said Norman Mora Segura.

This is intended to mitigate the impact caused by Hurricane Otto, which affected the country in November 2016 and caused agricultural losses as well as damages in approximately 9,700 hectares. The most affected crops were basic grains, roots, cocoa, and sugar cane.

The districts of Los Chiles, Cutris, and Pocosol have been part of the beneficiaries and this week it is expected to complete the delivery in the areas of Upala and Guatuso.
