Annual Festival in Palmares opened yesterday, and at least 3,000 mounted riders are expected to come out today for the Tope at 12pm. This is the 28th year of the event, which lasts for 12 days. Officials will try to beak up the rowdy drinking by separating mega-bars and putting restaurants, children’s activities and a paintball field at the center of the event, beside the “redondel” or main arena.

This evening will also be the first running of the bulls at 8pm. Free concerts will be held on Sunday the 19th and 26th. The grand carnival will be on Friday, the 24th.

Police will be on patrol, and running operations as far out as Naranjo. A flagrancy country in San Ramon will provide swift justice for those arrested at the event.

Public buses leave Palmares for San Jose from the Coca Cola terminal, at calle 16 and ave. 1-3.
