Foreign Ministry denies diplomatic courtesy to Venezuelan constituents

The Costa Rican Foreign Ministry denied diplomatic courtesies to the four members of the National Constituent Assembly of Venezuela who will be in the country these days to participate in an activity organized by legislators from Frente Amplio, Ligia Fallas and José Ramírez, as well as other leftist organizations in the country.

Foreign Minister Manuel González said that a few days ago there was a request from the Venezuelan embassy to the Protocol Directorate for diplomatic courtesies to be given to these people.

I stated that no diplomatic courtesy should be granted. Costa Rica does not recognize this Constituent Assembly, it does not recognize its members, nor its decisions,”

said the chancellor.

The Venezuelan politicians were elected in a process that was criticized by millions of Venezuelan citizens and the international community. They will be in Costa Rica for approximately four days, to participate in the ruling to be issued in support of Maduro’s government.

In addition to the refusal from the government, several legislators and parties raised their voices to oppose this visit and the use of the Legislative Assembly to carry out the activity.

The PLN sent a letter to the president of the Congress, Gonzalo Ramírez, to ask him not to authorize the use of the Assembly for that event. The Christian Social Unity was also against the presence of the Venezuelan constituents in the country.

With the arrival of representatives of the anti-democratic regime of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela, I raise my strongest protest and ask the President of the Republic not to receive them in any official activity,”

said PLN presidential candidate, Antonio Álvarez Desanti in a press release.
